At Unitronic, development begins with setting performance, efficiency, aesthetics, and quality objectives. Utilizing our very own development MK8 GTI, Unitronic Engineers quickly started 3D scanning the new EA888 EVO4 engine bay, which helps them interact with 3D models to identify fitment constraints, possible new mounting locations, and other component locations to ensure the final product fits perfectly within the “envelope”.

In the case of the MK8 GTI, the team quickly determined that special attention was needed at the front end of the vehicle as the existing Unitronic Air Duct did not perfectly align with the grill and there was also contact with one of the lower OEM hoses as well. As a result, Unitronic Engineers took this opportunity to revise the existing design to provide perfect fitment for the MK8, where scalloping was introduced to clear the lower hose, the internal flow was optimized, and the dual inlets were repositioned as well. Provisions were also made to support the OEM coolant line with clips securely, and the silicone turbo inlet hose was also redesigned to mate perfectly with the new turbos on the EA888 EVO4 engines.

Once all product updates were made to assure perfect fitment, the Unitronic Carbon Fiber Intake System successfully optimized airflow, improved throttle response, and enhanced turbo induction sounds while providing seamless integration and an aggressive carbon fiber presence in the engine compartment of the MK8 GTI.
